Originally founded in 1968, Sweet (or “Classic” Sweet as this period of the band’s history is now commonly referred to) were Mick Tucker (drums), Brian Connolly (vocals), Steve Priest (bass) and Andy Scott (guitar). They earned the moniker ‘The Wild Bunch’ between 1971 and 1978 when they were at the peak of their powers.

In the early 1970s under the wings of hitmakers Mike Chapman and Nicky Chinn (who had also produced and written for other artists like Smokie, MUD, Racey and Suzi Quatro) the band rose to global fame with an almost never-ending line of hits – nine of which became number ones. Songs like “The Ballroom Blitz“, “Teenage Rampage“ and “Fox On the Run“, to name just a few, made SWEET enduring cult stars of the rock scene. Not just because of the glam and glitter boom of the time, which the band dominated like no others, but also because of their musical quality, excellent album productions and especially their thrilling live shows.

It was after the release of “Level Headed” in 1978 that the classic band disbanded, despite once again having number ones around the world. Internal problems started to show and a number of US gigs ended up in disaster and after various disputes, Brian Connolly left the band in 1979. Sweet first moved on as a threesome, but the “Wild Days” were over!
