Peter Gabriel and Sting: Columbus Ohio June 2016
25 June 2016 Recommends
One of our listeners Debra Grant went to see the Peter Gabriel and Sting concert at the nationwide Arena in Columbus Ohio. This is Debra’s short concise account of the concert. This looks like one of THE concerts to attend this summer so if you can get tickets then I we advise you to do so as soon as you can
Take it away Debra….
I consider myself very lucky to have attended the first show of the “Rock, Paper, Scissors Tour” with Peter Gabriel and Sting. The Nationwide Arena, in Columbus, Ohio, was a very nice venue and the acoustics were incredible from my seat on the floor, at the back of the arena, just next to the mixing boards. Being height challenged did not afford me a good look at the performers but the sound was incredible.
The show began with Gabriel’s “Rhythm Of The Heat” with Sting joining in part way through the song. The rest of the show was a mixture of solo work from each performer, cover versions of each others songs, and duets with a very nice assortment of songs from each musicians catalogues. (There was even just a snippet of “ Dancing With The Moonlit Knight” sung by Sting as a intro to “Message In A Bottle”. ) Although “Sledgehammer” is probably my least favorite Gabriel song, it was the last song of the encore and the one that most of the crowd associates most readily with Gabriel. They were in full singing mode on that one!! The flow was fantastic with both bands moving on and off the stage as needed. For the first show of the tour, there were no apparent slip ups at all.
My favourite song of the evening was a new song by Peter called “Love Can Heal”. He dedicated this song to Jo Cox, MP, who was assassinated on June 16th,2016. Peter had become friends with Ms.Cox when she was working for Oxfam. While performing the song, Peter became visibly emotional and his voice wavered a bit on some of the lyrics.
In closing …This is a FABULOUS show and if at all possible, you MUST get out to see it!!! Setlist attached!!!
Thanks for that Debra. One look at the setlist makes me want to see this show. Let’s hope that once the American dates are finished Peter and Sting bring this show to the UK and Europe .
